Title: Where can I get some dichros?
Post by: Absolom on February 25, 2009, 05:30:23 pm
Where is a good place to get dichros without breaking the bank?

Ask this guy...

He's on this forum!

I got a set from him and they are no BS! There about the nicest ones I've ever seen in person!  ;D

I got a set from Edmunds and also a set from that fellow on PL.  Bridge maybe?  He'll give you a discount if you say you are PL member.  I think he knocked of $20 for the set.

The Edmund ones are thicker than the others but the performance seems about the same.

Great.  Thanks guys.  I have always stayed away from Edmunds, maybe becuase of the prices.  I think that was mainly because MWK was always so much cheaper on lasers.  I will give that a look too.

MWK? What's that?

Haha, MWK is gone now.  Last I checked, hene1 on eBay.  MWK Industries used to be the place to get laser stuff.  This was before solid state, 10 to 15 years ago.  If you wanted an air cooled argon, you went to MWK and got one with PSU for $2000.  Omnichrome and American laser would sell these new for $9000+.  HeNe's, HeCds, argons... anything and everything.  Odds and ends, this was the place.  Old school laserists will remember MWK if you ask them, even if they never bought from them.  MWK and Merrideth were the only places a hobbyist on a beer budget could get laser stuff.

Holy shit, I see they are still in business:

I see they don't have much anymore.  They used to have grip-loads of stuff.  Their prices (now) are high.  Compared to the market anyway.

MWK!

This is my Argon laser PSU. I would guess it to be from about 1995.

I had to replace the FETs and power diodes when I got it. Works fine now.

Did you get those with the mounts or just the opitcs?  And, you don't have to give me an exact price that you paid, but you could give me a "above $X and below $X".  I am just curious.  Is Sk8 on here?

He also made a violet laser for me, complete with power supply, in trade for a sound card + LaserBoy Amp.

I got the set of mounts and dichros for a very good price!

< $200

Yes, sk8 in on this forum!

ok I have a question, do they make dichros that pass through red on one side and reflect it on the other side???? I ask as I want to add more red lasers to my system.... ;D

and or build a 6-diode open can red >:D just think 6 diodes doing 225mW would give me 1350mW of red and then take away 2% x 6 ect.... I should get around 1.278watts of red this way.....NICE

I'm gonna' take a wild guess here and say no.

If there was such a thing we would all know about it. What you are proposing would be the best solution. No one would bother with PBS cubes or fiber couplings.

The only way I know to combine 2 beams of the same wavelength is to use a PBS.
I'm running 2 BluRay's and 2 Long Open Can Reds. To combine more than 2 is not impossible, but there are some sacrifices made. The beam shape is oval shaped due to the beams riding side by side and the beam diameter is hugh.

In the end it's not really practical to combine more than two beams IMO.

HEY! In post #10 in this thread, I have some pics of the dichro mounts I have. I need another one that matches these. Where do I get it? I looked at lasershowparts.com and they have it, but it will cost me $35 for the mount (great!) and $35 to ship it from China! Screw that!

I have already ordered the dichro and it is not a disk. It's a 30mm x 42mm rectangle. I was just going to bond it to the flat front of one of these mounts.

Any clues?
