Who's bitching?

I have made a real effort to know as much as I can about other viable operating systems.

After DOS and Windows, I learned about Solaris, from SUN Microsystems. That was when I learned C.

About the same time I got Linux installed on a machine of my own.

A couple of years later I was hired as an OS/2 software engineer.

While there I maintained the network, provided Internet connectivity and installed Linux servers. I wrote code that was cross platform compatible between OS/2, Linux, Windows 98 and NT. I could install and run The Apache Web Server on any of these and compile and install C++ applications in the cgi-bin. This became the portal for the GUI interface to their one-and-only software product.

I got another job working with battery-opperated hand-held computers with ARM processors. I designed and maintained their Web site and wrote code in C++ for ARM-Linux.

That's where I started the work that would become ezfb, the Linux frame buffer API, that LaserBoy was built on top of three years later.

All I am saying is Thank God for ANSI and IEEE !!!

I think it's amazing how much an operating system can become a government and a religion.

MS has NO NEED to market unless its to deal with BAD publicity brought to them from OTHER os manufacturers..

It sucks when truth is "bad publicity."

But that seems to happen a lot these days.

 I can't believe a little grumbling about MS would create such a fuss (I think we totally scared Hyena off). ANYTHING can be made better
than it already is. I'd like to see a new version of Windows that's actually worth the trouble. I've done a good deal of field service electronics
work at many different companies and have talked with IT pros- many of them made it a point to special order new PC's with XP instead of dealing
with Vista... What does that say?

 I agree with Blinken that most users could care less about the bits and bytes that make a computer go. Most want something that's powerful,
reliable and easy to use without a lot of knowledge. MAC deserves most of the credit for building a friendly and powerful machine (they were
generations ahead of PC's in the early days, and still set the standard for innovation in portable devices such as I-Pods and high-end cell
phones, not to mention that they are the computer of choice in many schools.

 Everday consumers should be able to walk into Best Buy and grab a pre-loaded PC with their choice of the Whopper, Big Mac, Beef-N-Cheddar,
or whatever- I guess that's the core of my beef with MS, as consumers have no choice.

 Maybe the solution is to get the FEDs to do MS what they did Ma Bell many years ago and bust the whole thing up (they made a couple of toothless
efforts to do this a few years back). I'm old enough to remember a time when you didn't own the phone in your own home. How telecommunications have
changed for the better since...

And the irony of all of this is that I'm sitting in front of a Windows machine...
