That looks pretty simple and very neat. Do you know how fast the combination is? IOW what is the max rate that you can switch the USB thing and can the FETs keep up?

I might like to play with something like that to do PWM for LED dimming.

The FET's are made by Inernational Rectifier and the part number is FU120. You can look up the data sheet to find the speed.

With your USB card hooked up, and Control Panel set for the internal card, can you hear music through the internal card when using Media Player?

I'll check tonight to verify but I believe I can.

Yes I can play a MP3 in media player with the USB scound card connected and the internal card set to primary.

Sounds like your internal card is OK... Unfortunately, I don't have a working copy of Spaghetti (since the free version expired) but when it did work (on a Vista64), music would follow the Control Panel setting just as MPlayer does; I could then choose in Spg where the Laser out would go. If you chose the same card, then music would mix with X & Y. At this point, I would check with Gary.

One other option I'm looking at that was suggested by my friend.
Partition the laptop/Vista drive and install XP on the partition. AKA dual boot.

I tried to get the dual boot set up on my Sony Vaio laptop this weekend to no avail. The drivers for the DVD drive are not included with Win 7 for the Vaio. So I decided to try XP. The drivers for the hard drive are not included with XP for the Vaio.

I can't win. I think I'm stuck with Vista weather I want it or not.

I'm switching gears now and accepting Vista. I will try to get the sound card driver to work with Vista 32. Like I said before they load and run, but the GUI looks very different than on XP and I'm having trouble getting the levels set for each channel. I know a couple of you guys are running Vista 64. Could you post some screen shots of your GUI and settings so I can see if I'm even on the right track?

Thanks

Attached are some test waves generated in LWave for audio DAC level setting purposes.

StereoCircle: 2ch, 100Hz cosine in X, 100Hz sine in Y, both at 100% level. This should appear as a full-screen
circle (with the color modulator disabled) on a projector.

  Circle6: 6ch, X & Y = StereoCircle, RGB & I (or Z) = Full-scale negative DC (should be positive after correction amp).

  Circle8: 8ch, Same as Circle6, plus StereoCircle in ch 7 & 8.

  CircleMulti6: X & Y = StereoCircle, R = negative-biased cosine at 75 Hz, G = 100Hz, B = 150Hz, I = 30% R + 59% G + 11% B (grayscale).

  CircleMulti8: Same as CircleMulti6, plus StereoCircle in ch 7 & 8.

Vista's Media PLayer will not play multi-channel wave, Spider Player is a freeware app that works well (Blinkin found that one).

  More on Vista to come...

The wife gave me the OK to install XP on her Dell laptop. Maybe I'll have more luck there.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Once I get the sound card drivers working I plan to install and test all the software I can get my hands on.

My list so far:
LaserBoy
Spaghetti
LaserWave
SoS
Laseroids (I can't wait for this one ever since I saw it at Bastment LEM on Dr. Lavas system)

Ok I installed XP on the wifes laptop and am getting it configured. Cross your fingers.

I decided to add an ILDA connector to the projector and had a question for the group. The ILDA port is connected in parallel with the output from the Sound Card Amp Board.
As you know my projector is designed with everything inside except the laptop. I plug a USB cable into the laptop to the projector and power thats it. Now that I installed an ILDA port, what will happen to the Sound Card Amp Board & Sound Card if I send signals through the ILDA port to the projector????? Of course I would not be playing anything through the sound card at the time, but it would be powered.

Thanks.

The result may be undesireable.  I am not familiar with the sound card circuit... the output as long as it is not powered up if it comes from an opamp should be high-impedence so it shouldn't be bothered.... If it is powered up then it may interfere...

Best to probably add some mixing resistors or circuit so that they don't fight...  I am just a software engineer however so another thing would be to just hook it up and see.

The offset amp would definitely have to be powered down to use the ILDA.

You might want to consider getting one of those old A/B parallel port printer switch boxes. That way you won't have to worry about it.
