Automated non-laser devices - Your input wanted
« on: August 23, 2009, 03:58:42 pm »
All, I want to come up with a list of standard names for Spaghetti for devices that may be TTL controlled.  I will do the same for DMX later but for now I am concentrating on TTL controlled devices.  The reason I want to make a standard list is so that when you open a show that someone made that supports some set of devices, it will automatically map it to what you have, if you have some.  For example, if someone makes a show with a Lumia wheel and a strobe machine, when you open the show, if you have a lumia wheel and strobe set up then it will automatically be mapped and ready to go.  That's why I want a standard list.  I will also support custom devices but the mapping won't be automatic.

Anyway here is a list I have to start with, if you have something you would like to then please do.

Fog, Fog 2, Strobe, Strobe 2, Lumia, Lumia 2, Grating, Grating 2, Lights, Lights 2.

If you can think of better names, I am interested in that as well.  It might be useful to have Red Lumia, and Green Lumia, etc, but being so specific might make it hard to match up devices when loading.

Your input is welcome and appreciated.

Cool!

First lets just throw everything out there and then put it into order.

I like the idea of having numbered devices. Bit I think it should be more open ended. Each device should be though of as something that might be one of many.

from the laser...
beam
grating
lumia

external devices...
fog
pyro

lights...
strobe
spot
flood

You could even use TTL to start audio or video playback devices.

Oh yeah and you have to have a trigger for that loud GAY siren, that goes whaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh !!!

Whoa :o

I like the Beam addition. I don't think sub-categories are needed though. There are not going to be enough choices to require that.

Woo hoo!  I can now add special Control layers to Spaghetti shows and then drag things like fog machines, lumia wheels, and strobe light onto them.  :)  Too bad they don't do anything there, though.  Next phase is to write the TTL device drivers and do the mapping.  Warm up your lumia wheels!

I had to look up Gobo.  I thought you were reverting to baby-talk at first. :)
