LaserBoy finally has a morph!
« on: October 20, 2009, 09:57:02 pm »
Check it out!

http://akrobiz.com/laserboy/code/LaserBoy_2009_10_20.zip

There are some new frame (fill) and frame set (rainbow & blend) effects and also, now you can randomize the order of lit segments in a frame (menu 'h', option 'm').

Now, if you want to use the "gears" or the "blend" (the new morph effect) frame set effect, you must first select the frames you want to effect (space bar selects). The gears effect requires 3 selected frames and blend requires 2.

This kind-of sets things up for a whole bunch of frame-to-frame trasition effects to come.

Oh, yeah.... in.ild got a little edited too.

Enjoy!  ;D

Hey I just figured out how to "wipe" the screen clean from left to right. I also just added a frame-to-frame trasition that uses the wipe effect to wipe one frame off the screen while another frame gets wiped on.

This leads right into the next effect of (fianlly) being able to pan vector art totally off of the screen (and back on again).

Pretty neat!  ;D

Look for it in the next release.

Coming soon.  %)

James.  :)

PS. I also made a big improvement in the new blend effect!  %)  ;D

Even better!  ;D

http://akrobiz.com/laserboy/code/LaserBoy_2009_10_21.zip

When LaserBoy calculates the blend from one frame to another, it has to add vertices to the frame that has less than the other to make them equal. The first version just piled up a bunch of blank vertices on the last vertex of the lesser frame.

This version adds vertices by copying them from the beginning of the frame, in order, until the frames are of equal vertex count. It looks a lot cooler!

PLUS, this version has the frame effect "wipe" witch wipes a frame off the screen (to blank), and a frame set effect, also called "wipe" that transitions from one frame to another. The frame set version requires two selected frames before it is called. For best results, pre-optimize so that there are a good number of vertices to work with.

For a really interesting effect, try doing a blend from a frame to a copy of the same frame, except use the "radonize segments" feature on the copy.

Enjoy!  ;D

yes that fixed a glitch i saw when morphing the new shapes frame into the colored stars frame.
before the last frame was blanked wrong, byt this version fixes that

Hey Dude! Thanks for testing it!  ;D

BTW shapes (circle, triangle, square, pentagon) was added for the new "fill" frame effect. Did you see that one? It looks really cool with the five stars too.

When fill does its thing, it uses lit-black vertices to bond the consecutive, concentric shapes together into one. So, you can apply other effects to them and they stay together. Of course, you could break these bonds by converting black to blank.

The effect "blend" also creates new art with lit black vertices. This is because the rgb values get blended together too. This also creates a true color frame from two pallete input frames.
