Point oriented vs vector oriented frames
« on: November 11, 2009, 05:43:42 pm »
So, what's the difference?  I honestly don't know.  I treat all ILDA frames the same.

Also, there is no general sub-forum for asking this question so I stuck it here.

Apparently pango by default treats frames with kid gloves and adds points where it feels necessary to make the frame safe to scan.  This means you can make a line with just 2 points and it'll do the rest.  That is vector oriented.

Point oriented is how you tell them to scan it more or less as-is.

It has been explained to me that the original intent of the ILDA format was to be a set of points, that, when clocked out of a DAC at some freq (probably 12KHz) should work and look OK. Apparently there was some thought about putting that freq in the section header or something, but it never happened that way.

That means that my interpretation of it is wrong.

I've got it so one can save data that is totally stripped of all unnecessary points.

From what I gather from reading forum posts, point stripped data is not well tolerated by the default settings of other systems.
