LaserBoy does something it never did before!
« on: March 07, 2009, 02:06:28 am »
Hey everybody!

Check this out.

http://www.akrobiz.com/laserboy/code/LaserBoy_03_06_2009.zip

LaserBoy now knows A LOT more about how to deal with unformatted wave data.

This means that ADAT, FM analog tape, analog abstract consoles, ... just about anything that makes a set of analog signals to control a laser projector can be recorded at 48KHz or 96KHz with my echo Layla 24/96 (or ADAT or similar) and converted into both a multi channel wave that can be played back with a modified USB sound card (with sound!  ;D) ...

... AND full color, nicely framed digital vector art (otherwise known as ILDA!  ::)) !  :o

... or at least a reasonable approximation there of...  ;) :-*

James.  :)

I still have a lot of cleaning up to do... but the neat thing is that the wave player in menu 'b' uses the system settings for sample offsets. So if you don't know what the timing is in the wave set you have, you can look for it and find it. Then you can write it to the header of the wave.

Oh yeah.....

You will have to rearrange some of the folders inside the LaserBoy directory.

See readme.txt.

That might work....

Has anybody messed with any of the new wave features?

I already changed some stuff...  ::)

As I've said before, LB would be tough to use for creating frames from scratch due to the interface, but it has so many viewing, unique editing, data conversion and rendering capabilities. I've played with it quite a bit, but as with LaserWave, the program is not self-explanatory (I doubt I know a quarter of what it can do)...

LB sorely needs some documentation with an overview, and a step-by-step tour to navigate through its major features...

I know... Let's hound James to dump the cross-platform thing and re-write the whole project from scratch in Bill's C#!!!

New version!

http://www.akrobiz.com/laserboy/code/LaserBoy_03_11_2009.zip

Check it out!

Improved wave (on monitor) playback....

as in it doesn't crash now!  ::)

Anyway...

Fixed a few spelling bugs and some other little clean-ups.

Added a new way to locate the fulcrum in menu 'l' (L). You can now put it on the egg or the spider, to quickly locate it on any vertex in the drawing.

I want more separation between the core and the GUI. I'm going to take the "print to bitmap (display)" functions out of the lower layers and put them in the GUI class where they belong! I will return error numbers to the GUI from the core.

I'm gearing up to work with some more multi channel (ADAT transcriptions) of an unknown origin!

I love being able to pull a laser show with stereo audio off of an otherwise useless tape!

I started on a computer that I built from a kit. It was about 9 inches square and had a flat membrane keypad on it. I loved it.

I got a CBM-64 after that.

I didn't bitch about any lack of a mouse!

I learned how to work with what I had!

But then again... I also bought both of these computers for no other reason than to program them myself!

I had no interest in running anyone elses software, unless it was something Dean was working on.

The first computer James mentioned was the Timex-Sinclair ZX-81 (I had one as well around 1981 or 2).
It came with just a few K of memory- I had an expansion module to take it to a whopping 16K (LOL).
It had a built-in BASIC interpreter, but you could do a little assembler with the Peek and Poke commands.
It hooked to a TV like a old Atari, but the display was black&white (I didn't have a color TV then, anyway).
You could store programs by connecting the unit to the Mic & headphone jacks of a cheap cassette recorder.
I used it more or less as a progammable graphing calculator.

You gotta' understand Alec, Dean......

He's a computer newb!

He's only 31!  ;D

He was born with a mouse in one hand and an 8 megapixel camera in the other!  ::) :D

He's a good guy!

He's just not an old f@&ker like you and me!  :P ::) ;)

James.  :)

BTW I fixed that stupid mono TTL thing....

A new release can wait for more important improvements...

(Did you get the whole snotty, glove in the face, pompas ass thing there..... or not?)

Ha!  :-*

BTW the Sinclair ZX-81 came with EXACTLY 1024 bytes of RAM.

That's 1KB !!!

The expansion device plugged into the back of the kit via edge connector and was, in fact, 16Kb of RAM.

That is 16,384 individual byte locations of RAM.

NO MORE!

And that included the "OS" and "live" input BASIC interpreter work space !!!

OK, now that's fun!  ;D

James.  :)

BTW Dean and I have known each other since about...........................

Hmmmmmmm............

1977 !!!

or so...

We met "officially"  when we were both in the 7th grade. We actually met the year before, for just a few days, while I was between one school or the other in the 6th grade...

He didn't like me at all for a few years.....

Go figure.  ::)

He always has his own way to look at stuff !!!

New one!

http://www.akrobiz.com/laserboy/code/LaserBoy_03_25_2009.zip

Fixed a long standing little but that use to eat vertices!

Fixed a palette span bug so now the palette starts at the extreem negative end of space instead of zero.

Added some new features to both menu K and L.

You can now reorder all the vertices in a frame starting at either the egg or the spider.

You can also revers the order of the vertices between the egg and the spider!
