Title: Enter the Cheap 445nm Diodes
Post by: cfavreau on June 02, 2010, 01:13:12 pm
There is a group buy on PL for 445 nm diodes pulled from a Casio XJ-A130

I ordered 1 diode and as soon as I get it up and running I will post some pictures and such.

Link to a post on Laser Freak in German on the matter:

http://www.laserfreak.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=47902 (http://www.laserfreak.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=47902)

They are selling for around ~$60 USD apiece.  I don't think they know the exact specs yet but they have been run over 100 mW and some at 470 mW (not sure the longevity...).

Here is the post on PL:

Don't shoot me for posting a link... please...

Here are a few more beamshots of a basic '400mW' module, no correction:

it does get a decent beam, 3x3mm at 3 ft. <2.5mrad

That is outstanding!

This changes everything!

Now it looks like we have some quantum values to deal with.

We've got the low end at 658nm in the form of two DVD burning diodes and a PBS cube. That can put out about 400mW.

Greenie pointers can be had that supposedly do 180mW or better at 532nm.

Now we have true blue at 445nm doing about 400mW. I would assue that these things combine the same way reds and BluRays do, so that could be more like 800mW, if necessary.

So now it looks like the limiting factor is the power of the red.

Aren't there some BluRay diodes out there now that can do 200mW? So it would be possible to add like 400mW at 405nm. Do you think you would even be able to see it when with the 445nm in the mix?

Now I want to build an RGBV !!! ;D

I don't think there would be any benefit of adding 405nm to this color.  But that decision is ultimately up to you.
Oh and although I posted in this thread, this is one of the $475 diodes. :O

60 bucks a pop!
I'm in for two.
time to pull the 405's and put 445's in.

2W 445nm 5.6mm duals tec cooled running at 50%. pinch me please!!!

Andrew, what current/ power and threshold levels are you seeing??

thanks

pat

hmmm, lets see.....475 x 24 diodes per unit = 11,400 dollars, for a 700 dollar projector. Well, another 225 and you could have 24 diodes. damn thats gotta hurt. i'm feeling you pain.....

I just like the idea of having 4 discrete wavelengths. There's just no substitution for violet! Red and blue don't make violet. They make magenta. I realize the violet would be lost if it was projected onto a surface that is flourecent.

Plus the fact, it would give me a reason to write code to populate the violet channel information in LaserBoy!

Insects and spiders would get more out of my lasers shows too. That's important.

Oh and although I posted in this thread, this is one of the $475 diodes. :O

I hate to ask.... Is there any difference?

I havn't been this excited in years..  I thought I was excited with getting RGV..  They are for real.. now to see if we can buy the replacement blue diode Laser Cartridge.. as it is removable...   with all 24 Diodes in it :)

OK OK!! I actually have to go to work..  now the Blue Diode Sled is removable.. IE  a part that can be user replaced maybe?

The Part Ordering Page for the Projector, Lists a Light (LamP) assembly..  someone should call..  24 laser diodes for even $300-400-500  would be a total LOL..  Casio will sell more spare bulbs than projectors.  Someone want to call for Pricing?

Oh no! You have Laser Jaundice!

I've had the real thing. Trust me. You'll be fine!

I just can't get over how nice your stuff looks in pictures!

Whenever I want to show someone what  laser a projector is all about, I call up your pictures!

They tell the whole story!

I'd really like to meet you someday! ;D

Thanks again for adding so much to our forum!

On the 445nm blue, I get the pin hole, but why the double prisms?

Correct me if I am wrong.

But I believe its to fix the fast and slow axis.

no-esc: correct! but ar'd for 808 not 445nm, but the beam, omg!
pinhole, just testing, removes artifacts on outer edge, but so do the scanner mirrors....

james: thank you! the gift is taking an idea then being able to creating it!

I still don't get it. Is this to equalize the dispersion angle in both axis?

BTW Where do you get those prisms?
