thx for replies!

i guess from whatyou said that the laser dichro setup is cool then.
but i still have to ask for help on the shutter and what i have to look for there.

if anybody could help by looking at the following i would be extremely grateful

things ive read about and know where to buy:
  • galvos x,y, with powersupply and controllerboards
  • dichro kit
  • lasers r,g,b
  • modified soundcard
things i know nearly nothing about:
  • general powersupply for lasers if this is needed
  • shutter
  • shuttercontrol
if i have missed anything on the list please inform me.

thx for your time

what about this dichro set:
http://lasershowparts.com/store/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=153
with:
Kit contains:

2 x 25mm fine adjustable mirror mounts(3 axis)
2 x slotted 'L' brackets
1 x reflect blue, pass red & green dichroic filter
1 x reflect blue & green, pass red dichroic filter

would that do the job and exactly how would the setup be then.
like this:?

red ->------/------/-----------\
                b        g             \--------------
                l         r
                u        e
                e        e
                          n

would this site:
http://stores.ebay.com/Zet-Biz
be an ok place to buy laser diodes based on your experience?
im thinking of something like:
405nm 250mw laser violet
650nm 180mw laser red
532nm 70mw laser green

would they fit eachother in intensity or would it be totally wrong?
well i still need a good international place for dichros and mounts. any ideas?

hi james. i have received the fundings on my account today hurray!! for both me and you since ive decided to accept your kind offer on the soundcard plus correction amp.

well now to some shipping and so.
200$ for the soundcard incl correction amp.
what about shipping to denmark?

how can i pay you?
and james dont take if personal when im so long to answer. i really dig your forum but i have so little sparetime to make projectors in:-( hehe

one little question
with dr lavas laser modulators and some lasers what do i then need to make the lasers work, power?

im gonna buy the 30k galvos incl driverboards and powersupply.
then i guess i need
a shutter?
a power supply for the lasers and shutter?
modulator for shutter?
anything ive missed?

answers to above questions are greatly appreciated!
kindest regards
johannes

Construction / help on a 1500$ rgb laser proector
« on: January 04, 2011, 05:33:33 am »
well i have gained fundings for 1000$ to build a laser projector.
all following is about building a projector in denmark which means shipping is a big issue!.

first of you might call it impossible but heres the catch
it doesnt have to work straight away with more than green.
only green laser have to be ok the rest lasers can be bad.
i have checket out that galvos for 30k are about 400$ incl shipping.
i want 30k galvos course of future rgb plans.

well  my questions is once and for all:

  • is this all i need:
    3 dr lava laser modulators.
    green,blue,red lasers.
soundcard with mod and external connection board
    galvos
    optics.
  • can anybody supply a direct link to a 7.1 sound card shipped to europe. i simply cant figure out which are compatible.
  • help on a kit to make the sound card to a laser compatible one
  • where to get cheap dichros and optics. im going for a setup with green laser pointing directly and other two lasers from the side.
  • if anybody have second hand or new equipment for sale that can cover the above lease make contact! - johannesgj at the wicked gmail.com
kind regards johannes (really kicking it now with fundings!!!)

Construction / green projector build
« on: November 05, 2010, 11:48:02 am »

this will be my log of a newly started laser projector build.
i have bought the correction amp from
http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/FlexModP3.php
and from him as well i got the modulators for three lasers (in the future i want to extend this projector to include red and blue.

so i now have
correction amp
2x modulators

i miss
usb 7.1 soundcard
galvos - am thinking about scanpro 30 but i cant find any place in europe they sell them for a reasonable price.
blanker
box
green laser - dont know where to get that i guess. :-( but this is probably the place to find the needed info

hi all!

i want to find out what shops exist carying what kind of galvos in the world categorised in:

USA:

EUROPE:

ASIA:

especially im interested in shops in europe as there is nearly none info on the different forums about galvos in europe. so i guess this could be a try to gather this info.

hope to hear from you guys with the spectre of knowledge of eternal laser modulation  ;)

LaserBoy !!! / Re: possible to make a short/full length film in vectors?
« on: February 11, 2010, 04:12:05 pm »
hehe i guess maybe my parrents feeded me too old milk  when i was a kid. and maybe they even added a little illegal flava  >:D hehe

no just kiddin'
its just that i really dig this medium and as i dont want the traditional film medium only used for hollywood cry movies i also would like to broaden the horizon of the laser medium.

nice reps.
thank you james for the quickie on green lasers!

well i get your point blinkenlights.
but as i see it the difference between vector films and color films is as big as between color films and b&w films. so again to put clearly
"a skanner darkly" based on phillip k dick featured a strange form of traced animation based on real footage. the medium in itself was appealing and interesting while the content was at the same time really nice it prooved to be a good result and unique.

so to put up my pros for laser movies it would be:
unlimited focus length
narrow frames in which you gotta put your creativity (stimulating)
new sense of depth in images
simple and clean animation based on actual footage (strange environment)
possibility to project on clouds, fog and smoke without the fozzyness created when using nomral projectors.
fascinating BEAMS!

laser shorts as a medium could proove really interesting and community creating.

LaserBoy !!! / possible to make a short/full length film in vectors?
« on: February 10, 2010, 08:58:37 am »
i am teaming up with a photographer to make a short film, just a hobby project. and i thought about if anyone have ever tried to accomplish some sort of "real" cinematic approach to the vector fields of laser "cinema"
what i mean is to short the movie in normal ways but with focus on simple environments and strong shadow/light conditions.
this will then be treated in maybe a photoshop action script that detects edges and then everything is vectorized in a raster graphics to vector program.

final result is a short movie in vector graphics thereby moving from having the focus on the form of laser projecting to the content of laser projecting.

dont know if this is done before but i find the laser vectors really beautifull and the combination of an 8dac with two channels reserved for sound just feels like an interesting medium for short movie diy filmmaking people i think.

maybe we could in the end coordinate a short film laser vector festival hehe

well just ideas. whats your thoughts? :-)

and another thing, a firm owning a big creative neighbourghood in copenhagen is looking for ways to promote themselves with logos etc. there is a huge silo so i thought of making a green laser projector and letting it shine every night with their logo maybe.
and my question is:
is it safe for the projector to let it run for like 8 hours in a row or is their some complications i dont know of?

Construction / Re: using hdd galvos for lofi laser projector - possible?
« on: February 08, 2010, 07:20:24 am »
what you mean by making my own. do you mean modding it to dc or?
with the 8 channel incl rgb mix thats just genious becuase then the hardware dac takes care of you starting with only one laser. in this case you can still practice making the nice vector graphics in laserboy in colors. output them in monochrome and when you get the other two lasers bang your rgb with a library of visuals :-)

sounds cool but i think that again i will ditch the cheapo and go for the real dish :-)

ill go with the scanpro 20 for a start some dac maybe one of those you recomennded to me in the beginner thread.
then for start only one green laser and for blanking - dunno :-)
i think that should do it.

Lasers / Re: Any Recomendations?
« on: February 06, 2010, 10:48:16 am »
i think i worked it out:
its an optic cube that either splits or merges two beams to one vice versa.
in that way you could use two cheap lasers to get the same output as an expensive laser. nice idea!!!

I use the FlexMod Drivers on all of my lasers including the 532nm.
I went with (2) 803T 405nm diodes and used a PBS to combine them. Considering how sensitive these diodes are, I would rather pop a $12 diode than a $99. A PBS will last forever (unless you drop it) diodes don't.

Lazerjock
what is this pbs business all about?
im having a dificult time figuring it out. and where to get lasers for 12$ sounds like fantasy :-)
