Well... LasertBoy is kind-of a pain-in-the-ass, but it is a consistant pain-in-the-ass all the way through the interface and it is exactly the same pain-in-the-ass in any modern OS. And pretty much all of the code that makes it a pain-in-the-ass is right there in the distribution.

It's a genuine original!

Who would copy such a thing?

Check it out!

http://akrobiz.com/laserboy/code/LaserBoy_2009_11_13.zip

I just added a new visual drawing aid. Now you can make numbers apear and dissapear next to the vertices, so you can see exactly where you are.

In menu 'u' it is now option '3' and the other stuff has been pushed down.

While you are in menus 'k' or 'l' (lower case L), you can also use the keys [single quote] [double quote] to place the egg or the spider directly on an index.

In menu 'k', what used to be [single quote] to convert to dots is now 't'.

Opening the program no longer over rides your setting for display font size factor, so now, even on a high resolution screen you can set it to 1, save your settings and it will stay that way!

The new drawing of Quisp is in this version's in.ild.

Geeeeeeeeeezzzz!

I've been programming my butt off and no one has commented on any of the cool new stuff.  :-\

Wow I just read the other post about blanking, pre optimized images etc. Talk about blanking delay, I am having the issue with my new DPSS, it is crap when it comes to blanking, it's on and off times are different, plus it seems like it mode hops somewhere between half and full power. If an amage has any blanking in it it won't get to full power. Looks like I am going to have to look over the power supply and see if that is modulating properly, and if it is then I will have to take the laser apart and fix it (more late nights).

Anyway, I have never had any experience with mechanical blanking, now I see where the confusion comes in. I actually came to the same conclusion as you James, I have added the ability to adjust all of the optimization parameters, on an image by image basis, per show. But this was to overcome the differences I have found between ILDA frames from different sources, now that I read more, i am beginning to understand why these differences exist. It is amazing though if you see a phase space aware image, how weird it looks on the screen, but how good it looks on the galvos.

PS, this is the most illiterate responce I have ever written (it is early Monday morning for me).

From what I understand, DPSS green lasers are modulated at the IR pump diode. The doubling crystal in front of the diode does it's thing best at a specific temperature. The IR pump diode is heating the crystal with a varying energy that is supposed to represent output power. It doesn't very well that way.

I believe you either need an optical feedback to the power supply or you need to keep the crystal temp stable either by heating or cooling it.

I was going to look into that, and maybe retrofit a peltier to take care of that. However it is a CNI laser module, and it does have an analog modulation input, so I guess it should work. Perhaps it does have a peltier and it isn't working, I will pull it apart and have a look. What did you think of my engraving, if you look carefully at the video you will see Quisp is already engraved on the right hand side of the black housing (I engraved him in there first, but engraved too deeply), you can just see his head poking out.

I emailed a link to you, of a video I shot using my new laser engraving mode? I sent it to the email address listed here.

Ahhh maybe it went through to your junk mail, I will PM you the link.
