They should respond just fine.  That is how they are used in DVD burners.

I wonder what kind of pulse frequency would be needed to out pace the fastest scanners.

Does the device continue to lase for any appreciable amount of time after the diode current is dropped?

  Twice the acoustic power does not translate to twice the percieved loudness; it takes
about 10 times the power to do that. It's why we measure sound level in decibels, instead
of watts. The range of the human ear from lowest to highest acoustic power is about 12
orders of magnitude- I imagine our eyes are not much different.

they are cheap.. 10,00 hours is great but 3,000 hours is still worth 30 bucks
