LaserJock,

That is super clean work!  ;D

You don't have to wonder if I get why you made it.

I bet you figured out a lot of stuff that will add inspiration to your future projects too.

James.  :)

I am interested in knowing how you combined the lasers in that tiny space.  What did you use?

The first page of this post has a picture of the dicro's and mirrors I used.

I had to come up with my own dicro/mirror mounts. I ended up using ridgid wire bent into shape and bonded the mirrors and dicro to the wire with a 2 part epoxy similar to "JB Weld" called 2216.

There are 3 laser diodes Red, Green & BluRay (BR). It is difficult to find mirrors or dicros that bounce 405 nm (the wavelength of BluRay), so I didn't bounce it. The BR is the last laser in the beam path and it goes straight through the dicro that bounces red and green. This also limits the amount of loss on the BR beam. Thats good since it is the most difficult to see.

Now that I have actually seen this thing, in person, and had it in my hand, I'd have to say I am REALLY impressed!

Laserjock brought this to Akron Basement LEM 2009. He also has another hand made box with a battery-powered, classic dual-DC-motor-mirror-spiro-generator-thingy. It was easily smaller than a VCR tape, set up to shine a pointer through.

So neat!

Oh yeah! He also brought a bit of glass that was probably a little over a quarter inch square that did something amazing to a laser beam! Sure. It's a diffraction grating, but I can't remember the name of it. It spread everything out into a HUGE fan of LOTS of beams that was wavelength sensitive (I think). Anyway. It made the most impressive wall-of-light I've ever seen! The dispersion of energy was super even. There was no obvious hot beam in the center. That was neato!

That was probably a Mischita diff grating.  They are super expensive and were used heavily in pro rail projectors back in the day.  They were well known for their dispersion being even.

"Mischita"

That's it!

Amazing!  ;D

Yes, I love those things.  I had one back in the day.  Very nice.  For a .5" square, you are looking at $250+

Hi, all I eventually noticed that lazerjock had posted on my forum about building a white laser so I thought I would come and have a look. You have put a lot of work into it, nice job!

I showed it to several people at work. They mostly asked why? That really upsets me
I know what you mean, anyone seeing that without knowing about lasers will think so what? Only those in the know can appreciate the intricacy of the build.

Thanks for the kind words Rog8811.
I figured you might like to see a different method of getting the same results.

Now that I have the alignment stable it's time to add the spiro projector.
I have also begun construction of my new graphics projector. I will start a new post soon of the build.

I see you have gone for the three buttons close together, I have done this on my pocket size version, pressing combinations of buttons is a doddle,  the buttons are under the grey triangle :)
