help on a 1500$ rgb laser proector
« on: January 04, 2011, 05:33:33 am »
well i have gained fundings for 1000$ to build a laser projector.
all following is about building a projector in denmark which means shipping is a big issue!.

first of you might call it impossible but heres the catch
it doesnt have to work straight away with more than green.
only green laser have to be ok the rest lasers can be bad.
i have checket out that galvos for 30k are about 400$ incl shipping.
i want 30k galvos course of future rgb plans.

well  my questions is once and for all:

  • is this all i need:
    3 dr lava laser modulators.
    green,blue,red lasers.
soundcard with mod and external connection board
    galvos
    optics.
  • can anybody supply a direct link to a 7.1 sound card shipped to europe. i simply cant figure out which are compatible.
  • help on a kit to make the sound card to a laser compatible one
  • where to get cheap dichros and optics. im going for a setup with green laser pointing directly and other two lasers from the side.
  • if anybody have second hand or new equipment for sale that can cover the above lease make contact! - johannesgj at the wicked gmail.com
kind regards johannes (really kicking it now with fundings!!!)

I have just a few fully assembled LaserBoy correction amps. I would be very pleased to send one to you to add to your creation!

If you like, I could even get the sound card and put the whole thing together for you; ready to go for $200.

hi james. i have received the fundings on my account today hurray!! for both me and you since ive decided to accept your kind offer on the soundcard plus correction amp.

well now to some shipping and so.
200$ for the soundcard incl correction amp.
what about shipping to denmark?

how can i pay you?
and james dont take if personal when im so long to answer. i really dig your forum but i have so little sparetime to make projectors in:-( hehe

one little question
with dr lavas laser modulators and some lasers what do i then need to make the lasers work, power?

im gonna buy the 30k galvos incl driverboards and powersupply.
then i guess i need
a shutter?
a power supply for the lasers and shutter?
modulator for shutter?
anything ive missed?

answers to above questions are greatly appreciated!
kindest regards
johannes

would this site:
http://stores.ebay.com/Zet-Biz
be an ok place to buy laser diodes based on your experience?
im thinking of something like:
405nm 250mw laser violet
650nm 180mw laser red
532nm 70mw laser green

would they fit eachother in intensity or would it be totally wrong?
well i still need a good international place for dichros and mounts. any ideas?

what about this dichro set:
http://lasershowparts.com/store/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=153
with:
Kit contains:

2 x 25mm fine adjustable mirror mounts(3 axis)
2 x slotted 'L' brackets
1 x reflect blue, pass red & green dichroic filter
1 x reflect blue & green, pass red dichroic filter

would that do the job and exactly how would the setup be then.
like this:?

red ->------/------/-----------\
                b        g             \--------------
                l         r
                u        e
                e        e
                          n

I'm pretty sure You have to swap the positions of your green and blue lasers.

My dichros work like this:

green ->------/------/-----------\
                   r        b             \--------------
                   e        l
                   d       u
                            e

Think about what power levels are available to you and in what wavelengths. Your lowest powered laser (probably red) should be placed with some concern for power loss in the optics. But there isn't really any difference in our two arrangements, accept for how green and red are combined before the blue gets added.

thx for replies!

i guess from whatyou said that the laser dichro setup is cool then.
but i still have to ask for help on the shutter and what i have to look for there.

if anybody could help by looking at the following i would be extremely grateful

things ive read about and know where to buy:
  • galvos x,y, with powersupply and controllerboards
  • dichro kit
  • lasers r,g,b
  • modified soundcard
things i know nearly nothing about:
  • general powersupply for lasers if this is needed
  • shutter
  • shuttercontrol
if i have missed anything on the list please inform me.

thx for your time

Pin 13 on the ILDA connector is supposed to be +5VDC. You cannot draw any current from it, but it can be used to actuate the shutter. That way, if the control cable gets pulled out, the shutter will close.
