Spaghetti Progress - March 2009
« on: March 25, 2009, 08:23:58 pm »
Spaghetti is really coming together with the latest changes I have been making.  I've fixed a number of bugs and have enhanced the display a great deal.  I readded the file browser to default mode so you can browse ILDA files as soon as you open the application without having to open or create a project.  I have also done somethings like made the timeline sizable so people with small vertical resolution won't have it overlapping the preview window.  Lots of things like that have been spruced up to make it look more professional and user friendly.  In the process, my TO DO list has grown considerably.  The more I change the more cool things I think of to add.  Most of them are fixes for little quirks but should make the application more enjoyable.

Nice of you to think about the members with the eee pc's (me)  ;D

I recently bought a pair of DT25's, so I can get a bit more creative with Spaghetti without having to worry about shitty scanners  :D

Anyways, what are you thinking of charging for Spaghetti? If it is $50 or so as I saw in the other thread, i'd be happy to pay that, Spaghetti has a lot of potential and I wanna be around to see it grow and also be able to use the newest updatess ;)

Keep us updated Gary, i'm sure i'm not the only one wanting to know how/when/how much it will be  ;)

Cheers,
Dan  :)

I'm going to give it a try at $50 and see how it goes.  I hope to have it available sometime this week.

Yea, if you buy it you will get future versions for free.

The only thing that people are probably not going to like is that the license I provide will be tied to one computer.  So, you won't be able to run it on multiple PCs unless you buy multiple licenses.  And, you won't be able to transfer the license from one PC to another.  I don't particularly like that policy but that's the only way I can think of to prevent everyone from using it for free.  I'll probably offer some flexibility so that people aren't screwed if their PC catches on fire and their license is no good.
A USB dongle would be a better solution for all of this but that would add an extra $20 to the price tag.

Perhaps I will offer a deal so if you buy more than one license at a time I will let you have the 2nd license at a reduced price.

Bottom line is that I want to make it as fair as possible for both me and whoever buys it and I'll do what I can, within reason, to make it that way.

what if i dual boot? i have vista and XP, i like making shows in Vista but like playing them in XP (devils advocate here)

maybe the license should be tied directly to the users email and personal information. and the software should REPORT when it is activated.. if you see a license over used, blacklist it.. require the software to check in every 30 days. if the license is blacklisted disable spaghetti.

I think it should work OK in the dual boot scenario you mentioned.

I don't have a web server to support network validation and really don't want to go to that level of complexity.  I don't want to make network connectivity a requirement just for licensing.

I assume you mean shows or ILDA files or something??

I'm going to create some ILDA files that I will include and I intend to use them to create some sample shows that will demonstrate how to build shows and how the different effects can be used.  They won't be anything fancy, just enough to get you started.

I'll also include some documentation.

The above won't be included in the initial release since I haven't had time to work on it but it eventually will be.  I intend to make it as professional as I can.  But, as I add more and more stuff I don't promise that the price will stay at only $50.

I also want to create some video demos and put them on YouTube and link to them from my website.  I might enlist my wife to help me with some stuff like that.  She is my tester for now.  haha.

That is something that I have intended to do for awhile but I have kept it a low priority since all of the shows that I have seen that use text are pretty cheesy.

Technically, it isn't all that difficult.  True Type Fonts are vector based so converting them to laser images is relatively straight forward.

I'll get to it eventually.  It will be an important feature for Wet Noodles so writing an engine to display text is definitely on my list.
