7 Color / White Pointer Project
« on: January 28, 2009, 07:56:13 am »
Hi all, :D
I decided after building a Red and BlueRay pointer that I would pick up a green module and attempt a White Light / 7 color pointer. I have seen the results of one other posted on LPF, and it looks good. I want to make it as small as possible and may add a spiro projector after done.

Here are pics of my progress so far. I still need a Micro driver from Dr. Lava for the BlueRay. I may steel one from my other pointer. I'm still hammering out the details on how to mount the mirrors and dicros and still have the adjustments needed for alignment. I think I will bond each of them to a 1/8" solid wire then drill a hole in the mount with a set screw. The wire will allow for the adjustment and still be very rigid.

What do you guys think?

All three lasers in the mount and the electronics.
Here is the driver for the red diode and a 3.3 volt regulator for the green. I plan to us 4.5 volts to drive everything.

how do you plan to modulate them?

I think he just intends to use it as a laser pointer so modulation would be via a switch.

Exactally! Three switches to select the colors. I'm still on the prowl for a good host.

I plan to add an abstract (spiro) projector once it's finished. For now it's just going to be a pointer.

I've mounted my dicros and mirrors, but I need to come up with a better way. It won't stay in alignment. The "proof of concept" is there though.

I have been running it using a DC power supply, the other day I noticed it was pulling 650 ma when all three are on. I guess the thought of using AAA batteries is history now. I'm thinking I need to use C or D batteries.

I got a basic alignment done. The color mix isn't too bad. I originally thought I would have too much green, but it seems like I might need more.

I got my host yesterday. It's tight, but everything fits.
I still need to come up with a way to protect the optics sticking out the end.
