windows foot steps?

Some historians say that Apple first created the concept of a windowed environment.

Actually, it was Xerox and it was called X. It was designed to be the windowing system for UNIX.

You're right. I stand corrected. The i386 came out much ealier, in 1985.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I386

1993 was the year Linux actually came together and became a real OS.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Linux

Quote
1993: Over 100 developers work on the Linux kernel. With their assistance the kernel is adapted to the GNU environment, which creates a large spectrum of application types for Linux. The oldest currently existing Linux distribution, Slackware, is released for the first time. Later in the same year, the Debian project is established. Today it is the largest community distribution.

I can most definitely play waves on it, as I can on any DAC.

Really?

So you read the wave and convert the color channels to 8-bit and clock it out at the correct sample rate?

Can you play 48K waves?

Sure.  Why not.  People use DACs to play audio files all the time.

TTL color !!! ? ???

Ummmmm.

I have to ask....

Why would you want a DAC that costs more than a modified sound card and isn't anywhere near as good?

Who cares about any other software...

Spaghetti gets WAY more performance out of a modified sound card!

You're missing the big picture.  There are tons of cheap laser projectors on Ebay that are RGY, TTL, etc, etc. There are also tons of IShow packages being sold on Ebay.  Why?  Because it is all cheap.  The people buying those cheap prepackaged projectors are not the type who will consider making a sound card DAC.  Only a very small percentage of people are.  So, if I can add support for the IShow I will tap into a huge market that is currently only serviced by crappy software.

The DAC isn't for me.  I have several good DACs already.  I just need it so that I can figure it out and make it work.
