Topic: Rock Band is AWESOME

I just played Rock Band for the past several hours at a friends house.

I sang. I did several songs on the 'hard' setting. I got scores in the 90s. 

Man! That is a work out! It takes a lot of sweat and energy to keep up with that. 

Anyway...... now that I got my rock star attitude back from 20 or 30 years ago,

I just came home and started reading this forum.

GAWD! This is geeky and boring! 

Photons, wavelength, galvanometers, poly-chromatic-what?

Don't you people have anything better to do? 

You nerds need to all get a life! 

Actually, we should set it up at a LEM!

Screw Rock Band.  If kids spent the amount of time learning to play a real instrument as they do playing that silly game they would actually be able to play something.

I went to the Monster Truck Jam last night and I got to see Grave Digger!  Grave Digger rules!  Now that was cool.  I am trading in all of my laser junk for some giant wheels for my Jeep.

Hey! You can't fake singing! The drumming is fairly accurate as well. I agree that the guitar controller is nothing like a real guitar, but it really does teach eye-hand coordination and reaction to a critically timed series of events; much like written music. I think if little kids play this for a few years before 5th grade band, learning to play a real instrument would be a snap! It should also weed out kids who have no musical ability before they try the real thing.

Why don't you compromise and put monster truck wheels on your laser projector?

Uncontrollable Urge by DEVO is one of the songs. That's a good one!

guitar hero and rock band (the same thing at this point) both teach a great love of REAL music, sure ypur not learning to PLAY the guitar, but you ARE learning skills that will HELP you learn to play the guitar..

i play both guitar hero AND a real guitar and the accuracy of the critical timing is on point.. the only difference is that your fingers are in different positions... a G chord is a G chord, in guitar hero you play it with certain finger position, on a guitar its a bit (alot) different.. but the chord changes are the same..


i love guitar hero, and my REAL LIFE guitar experience has proved to be helpful.. so whatever you say about FAKE instruments, in the end, we are all learning the same skills...

I don't care, it's a fun game.
I don't have a musical note in my body. Never did, but Guitar Hero lets me think I can play.
Me and all my neighbors have the game, we get togother on the weekend have a few drinks and pretend we're rock stars.

Thats what it's all about. Right?

Well if you did not know how to speak at all, the speaking English is a good step. and its a skill all its own, so even if you dont get around to learning Chinese, you can still speak English...

Almost all traditional musical instruments are very sensitive to technique. If you don't know how to put your fingers right or whatever it doesn't sound good. But that's is not always true. Think about an organ. It doesn't matter HOW you press the key, just WHEN.

BTW your language analogy is interesting. As long as you get the pitch and the phrase correct when you sing, you could sing the whole song in Chinese and still get a high score!

Yep that about sums it up.. the same mental quickness and hand eye ear coordination is learned in both cases. Playing rock band is great for kids to start to develop the skills needed to later pick up REAL instruments. skills like finger control and timing.
