Re-runs
« on: April 30, 2010, 12:23:24 am »
It's been kinda slow on the Forum lately... When there's nothing new to watch on TV, there's nothing better than watching some
good old fashioned TV Land style re-runs! This stuff rivals the Andy Griffith show, or the original Star Trek series in its
re-watchability... It's an all-time LB Forum classic!

And, for those of you who are new to the Forum, you'll get the special treat of experiencing it for the first time. Enjoy! :)

I'm glad you find this so amusing, Dean. As a matter of fact there is a 'next season premiere'.

I'm working on a draft of it right now.

Pixels seem to be a good way for me to express what might otherwise be thought of as extremely complex ideas.

So pixels will serve me once again as a definitive way to finally close the book on this long and disgusting story.

Spoiler Alert! :: It has a very happy ending! ;D

James.  :)

PS. Thanks Dean! I was wondering how and where to work this into the forum.

You know Dean, if you would just slightly rearrange the order of the exact same information that you are already writing to a wave file, you could easily save your LWave generated art directly in the ILDA file format.

It is actually MUCH easier to store and retrieve color laser vector art in an ILDA file than it is to store it in a wave!

Give it a shot! Then you too will fully understand just what a fabulous job ILDA has done in keeping this standard alive, open, engaging and fertile for all kinds of new laser application development!

You will kick yourself when you see just how simple this format really is.

If not, I'd be glad to kick you.  >:(

Actually, I am interested in adding ILD output to LWave down the road, then I wouldn't need LaserBoy anymore to interact with other apps directly. ;) The problem is LWave uses 24bit color, and that means that I need to use format3 or higher. Format3 went down with the Hindenburg*, so nobody uses ANY form of it except LB- this leaves fmt 4&5 as my only option. As for white paper on ild from the horse's mouth, all I can find is this:

http://www.laserist.org/StandardsDocs/IDTF05-finaldraft.pdf

This is an EXPIRED proposal, and it says nothing about fmt 4&5. I don't know why the current gospel info is not readily available at the ILDA website. >:(

Yes, LB has 4&5 support complete with open source code, but it might as well be in Swahili to me. I need a simple description in English.

Why do you need to write format 4 and 5 .. if format 3 works.. use it.. LB can open and convert anything created in lwave to format 4 and 5 ...

That would be redundant. LW already uses the LB wave format which allows usage of LB to convert to any one of many formats.
I just want to add the option of saving to .ild in LW so that no conversion is needed to directly load its output into OTHER laser
apps. Format3 appears not to be in widespread use. Wave is great for modified audio cards because you can load it directly into
a generic player complete with music, but it just hasn't caught on with other developers as a way to store laser art.
