Community Laser Projector Build!
« on: May 09, 2010, 10:47:40 am »
Hey everyone!

My friend rMuD has just joined the forum. He's the guy who sold me my gas rig. He actually scored it for me in 04 but I waited forever to go get it on 01/17/05.

Anyway.....

He wants to build quite a few solid state projectors for in house demonstrations and technical development.

He was thinking about the same thing I was... We should all get together and get all the parts we need to make projectors for everyone who wants them.

There are some of us on this forum who are particularly talented in certain areas we need. Still others have resources, like materials, time and location.

When we get all the stuff we need to make all of the projectors, we can all get together here for Yet Another Akron Basement LEM 2010 and actually build all of them at the same time!

I think if we get enough enthusiasm for Project Projector, we could build projectors for a few people who might not be able to make it to Akron.

I'm just looking forward to being able to work with people who have already done it well and learning everything I can.

Who's in?

James.  :)

BTW I can build LaserBoy DACs for quite a few of them! ;)

Cool!

Bring Mark, Lenny and Chris with you.  ;D

I can schedule my time pretty easy. Let's get the parts and go for it.

If you go with drlava's analog modulated diode driver, you do not need a lasorb.

When fully assembled, it protects the diode from ESD and prevents the input modulation voltage from driving the current too high from an input of more than +5VDC.

That's what I plan to use, no matter what. I know the guy!  8)

OK, Found these in one of my laser Bins, got a bunch of them.  They were supose to be turret mounts for a beam table, but the machine shop decided to open up the ID of the outer ring so they wouldn't be so tight to put together, making them rather useless for a beam table.  Aluminum..  the ID of the of the bigger piece is just under 1/2"  as a post won't fit in the hole..  wondering what size the Diode barrels are and if they could be used for Heat sinks..

Nevermind these seem to be a bit better for the application and for $15  can't beat it

TEC. Thermo Electric Cooler.

I already have a nice pair of dichros and mounts.

I have a reflect red and a reflect blue.

I think I need to get another one for 405nm, violet.

I also have a cheesey greenie with a drlava analog mod on it.

I need dual red, dual BluRay, both with analog modulated drivers, reflect violet dichro and mount, some hunks of Aluminum and scanners and amps!

I'm going to leave room for a 445nm blue diode assembly and a dichro mount for it and wait until the blue becomes affordable.

I

I can't stop!  :P

Yeah, Jimmy! You need to get a decent powerful compact projector put together so I don't have to wag a bunch of oversize delicate stuff in my car to the next SELEM...

Well...... I have a brand new car to go to SELEM in this year!

We just got a Ford Fusion and on long trips it gets up to 37.7 mpg.

Plus it has XM radio and decent speakers.

I'd love to get this party started before SELEM!

Hey Dean! The whole idea of this is to get the cost down and the good parts up! Why don't you throw in and build one for yourself?

If we're getting Chinese scanners, we should go for the best deal on all of the sets we need in one order.

James.  :)

PS This double blank line in the text thing is killing me.  :o ??? :(
