Hey everybody!

I'd like to introduce you all to the new member, patternbased aka Joe.

He lives within walking distance of my house! :D

And I think I have successfully inoculated him with the "laser bug". ;)

He wants to get into this laser building thing too!

He's already well on his way to freaky..... He's got all kinds of awesome music gear, traditional and electronic. He's a recording artist and he is very interested in visual art and video projection.

There are so many people on this forum he should communicate with!

James.  :)

Is anybody interested in the 30k scanners?  I am contemplating a group buy.

What's the best deal on a green laser that can be modified with a flexmod to go analog?

100mW
150mW
200mW

Looks like there's lots of stuff on eBay!

http://cgi.ebay.com/200mW-532nm-Green-Laser-Module-3V-11-9mm-DIY-NEW-/220609255938?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item335d561a02

Even if this turns out to be less than half the power, if it modulates well, it is certainly worth something.

What is real and what is crap?

hi,
sounds like i can help out here!

laser diode housings:
get laser66 housings for red and blue (i have 4 in my projector)
use 405-g-1 for bluray 30 each ( i have 2 lens nuts fitted with 405-g-1 lenses in my 650's that need a 405 home, so i can put the right 650-g-1 lens in there.)
use 650-g-1 for red dvd long open can diodes 30 each

i reviewed these laser66 modules a year ago see photolexicon. nice beam profile at module exit

for green laser, convert high power (100mw+) pointer module to analog using flexmod driver or the new driver with optical feedback for better modulation control. (wishfull thinking, flexmod3? ??? andrew, hint hint!!)

405nm sfaw210 21.99 modwerx

532nm green modules in classic housings, (NOT DX STYLE!) uses 9mm 1w? ir diode from laserlands! (link) 150mw 63.99 WOW! Actual power is more than any other modules, for the price. better divergence than dx on average....
i use 2 of these combined, converted to analog, modified, tweaked, turbocharged with staggering turn on levels for better modulation (waiting for flexmod3!!) 815ma each for a whopping 1.63Amps!

650nm DVD LOC Modwerx 12.99

cubes, comes in a sled, both 405 and 650, dam brain fart! think it was kes400a sled, hella lot cheaper!! the laser66 modules with the g-1 lenses allow the proper beam diameter to use the small cubes! sweet!

no-esc: hmmm pheonix scanners?? good price! any reviews? i might want in on these.

I got several 532nm coming in from  dealextreme.com  from 20mw to 200mw  sure they are junk but didn't spend much, enough for testing and blowing up.  I can't get the laser66.com to respond to me email to get the housings.

Interested in the scanners but are they really 30k..  maybe one set to start or video of a set... 12k is good enough for beams

Does anyone know of a source of high powered green pointer style lasers that are known to work well with analog modulation?

If you give me a link, I just might buy one or two!

Joe asked me to pay attention to this project and help him get the parts. So For starters, we need a nice hunk of Aluminum plate, a greenie and a nice pair of scanners!

About the size of a nice laser projector!

Like 12" x 24" or whatever.....

James why do you need it to be 24" long?  12" x 12" or 12" x 10" is plenty big.

Although I may have 1 plate 12 x 24inches / 3/8ths and one 12 x 24 x 1/4

With the new 445nm diodes out of the casio projector it looks like we can get

400mw 532nm (knife edge greens)  140 bucks or so 2 200mw modules.
300mw 445nm (still waiting on testing results) 80-100bucks 2 diodes.
500mw 650nm  LPC LOC's 20-30bucks 2 250mw modules.

165 +20 or so for 30k scanners.

analog drivers and power supplies est 60-120 dollars.

So with the intro of the new 445nm diodes (awaiting beam research/pwr rsrch)  we could build over 1 watt of white light? for under 500 bucks or so?

Am i estimating these close enough???

talk about stoked...

Also I met someone today at work that can run the mill and the CNC machine and wouldnt mind doing some paid work afterhours here...

Anyone have google sketch up files for X Y mounts?  or some custom diode holders or heat sinks?

Let me know

Source for $100 445nm  the gods are smiling on us!

I am donating a 3/8" x 24" x 36" plate  tapped with 1" on center 1/4" 20 standard optics table (un anodized) that James said he can cut up for this project.  Now this plate was partially tapped by OSR so some holes were stripped..  we put the thing on a bridge port with thread tapping head.. he still stripped holes somehow.  But anyway  it is in good shape.

I'll be back in Cleveland Tomorrow..  hopefully all my packages have arrived.

Still lacking Laser66 style barrels.  got lots of ones from lasersurplusparts.com  the big black ones..  won't work with the heat sinks.

I am looking forward to designing a Atmel based TEC,  I've got a very extensive Developer kit based on the AT128  Looking forward to finally getting to use it for something useful.

good dicro stock is about $100 per sqin  and about the same for mirrors.. another $100-$200 in optical mechanical.  $50-150 in a nice case, Power Supplier...  what else?

I have already cut 3/8" Al plate on our table saw. It works fine. We also have a drill press and a Shop Smith Mark 5. So we can do some really nice tooling here.

Looking forward to it! ;D
