And  :o :o Big Surprise - I'm gonna blow your minds with this one....

Maybe one format doesn't fit all.

Perlin noise is one of my most favorite things in the world.  To watch that thing ripple on and and on is pretty hypnotic.

Another approach is to create a library of your functionality.   You could sell it or give it away.  If it was good, I would consider adding it to my software.  Then, to reproduce a pattern, you only need to feed it the settings of the oscillators.  No need to create wavs or ILDA files in that case.  I'd just pipe it directly to the DAC.

A plugin architecture for laser shows!  A great idea - sort of like the VST concept that revolutionized music software.  Then, just like music software, the time line in show designer software could contain ilda frames or parameters/envelopes for the plugins.

EXACTLY!  I hadn't thought of the plug-in idea but that is exactly what I was thinking in regards to being able to add a "abstract" animation to the time line.  Instead of an ILDA file, the "abstract" animation would be simply settings for an abstract generator.  I really like that plug in idea so they could be added by different people independent of my own work.  And, the XML file that I use would totally support something like that.  There could also be things like "Text" plug-ins and raster plug ins.  That would be sweet.

I would totally use something like this!  Open source, anyone could write plug-ins for it too.  To suit their display needs.  This is really great.

Well lets put our heads together sometime.  I spend about every other weekend in Temple or Austin - at least until I move to the frigid laser Mecca of Ohio.

Nothing like a PLASMA space heater or hot water heater.  I did use the hot water from a spectra phys 168 to shower at an outdoor fest once.  I hope Mixed Gas from PL can fix my 60x argon when I get up there.
