Spaghetti contest winners
« on: February 01, 2010, 09:02:21 pm »
I had a Spaghetti laser show contest and I announced the winners tonight.  Only 3 people entered but all 3 shows were good.  One was disqualified for being too short which is a shame because it was very entertaining.  First and second place winners were from France.  I let the disqualified show win 3rd place for being a good sport.  :)  He was from Malta.  I don't even know where Malta is other than that it is in Europe!  First place prize was $60.  Second place won two Spaghett licenses.  Third place got one Spaghett license.  I hope to be able to put the shows on my website.  It was part of the contest that I would do so but I want to get permission from the contestants first just so no one gets upset.  I hope to have more contests with better prizes in the future.

So you held the contest afterall... I remember you made a post about a month ago, but it quickly disapeared- maybe that
was why you had so few entries. Hopefully, the winners won't mind you posting their work so we can see it!

I didn't do a very good job of spreading the word but I think the majority of people who own Spaghetti knew about it.

Gary, sorry for not entering.  I was excited about it, but got caught up with many other obligations.  Glad you got some nice entries, and congrats to the winners!

The winner has asked me to donate his cash prize to Red Cross.  So, I guess it was kind of like Spaghetti-AID.  I think that is pretty cool.

I will be uploading some additional shows that were donated later.

im assuming that the mp3's were omitted for licensing purposes..

if you want to make the show work, read the README file and go download the song listed there. (look for something that is the same size)

also the kbps of the mp3 used should be listed in the readme just to make it easier.

I can understand why the mp3's were omitted, I found some copies online, but mp3 rates vary and I can't get SPG to load the shows- I assume that it's looking for an exact copy (specific length, bitrate and such)? I'm running ver 1.8.1.15...

Hmm, might be good have the project load up in future versions of spaghetti with an "mp3 file not found continue anyway?" error or "select alternative mp3 for project" so we can play the project file without the need for the mp3.

I have the exact name song and song length but the byte size is different so no go error :-(

Yea, I am going to fix Spaghetti so it handles missing songs or ILDA files better this weekend.  As long as you have some MP3 file that has the same filename it should work.  Spaghetti doesn't check the file size or bitrate or length.  I am not sure what will happen if the song length is shorter than the time specified.  If it is longer it won't matter.

Dean, those shows won't run in 1.8.1.15 and no future ones will, either.  You'll need to download the latest version.  Your license will work with new versions so there is no reason to stay on 1.8.1.15.  Shows created in 1.8.1.15 will be converted to the new format when you attempt to load them.

There isn't much I can do about the songs.  I can't distribute them and I wasn't the one who created the shows so I don't know where they came from.  5 of the shows were created by some guys on the French LaserFreak board.  So, go over there and email them if you want.  Sometimes the shows get posted on the photonlexicon website and have the songs in them.  Maybe someone will post them there.  I don't know.  I'm sure you will figure it out, though.

Downloaded the newest rev of Spaghetti, and everything works fine. I really liked the 1st place winner's show, I've played it more than a couple times, and I appreciate SPG's beam show emulation capability. The new rev looks good, too! Thanks Gary!
